mode took part in the Intelligent Data charity 5-a-side football tournament on Thursday, it was a great evening spent raising money for an extremely poignant and admirable cause, for Acorn’s a children’s hospice charity.
In the first game against Atkins, mode seemed to have misplaced their shooting boots and despite a valiant effort from Adrian “the Fox” Forte in goal, eventually lost 1-0 in a well-contested game. Some stern words from the gaffer David Frisby were had leading into the second game of the night.
Once again mode’s Matt “Shearer” Shuttleworth took charge of finding the back of the net early on in the second game against AECOM, what was to become first of many goals with some clinical shots. Agonisingly, a mode conceded a late equaliser to finish a 4-4 thriller meaning they were still yet to claim their first victory.
There were no mistakes in the third game with arguably the goal of the tournament being scored from the halfway line on the volley by Josh “Zigic” Norris, in a 3-1 victory over a physical ID team in a well-fought battle.
With victory needed to secure a chance to finish in top spot, mode faced last year’s champions Mott MacDonald. In a tit for tat game, that was left unbearably poised at 4–4 with seconds to go Sunny “the squander” Singh slashed wide in front of an open goal. Sunny did make a small step towards redemption by scoring with an exquisite finish in the final game against WSP – however, unfortunately for him, the earlier miss will never be forgotten.
mode eventually finished in 3rd place overall, a valiant effort from the team.
Thanks again for Intelligent Data for hosting another great evening’s football, and to everyone that took part in raising money and awareness of the Acorn charity. mode will be sure to be taking part again next year!
